ABOUT GOING NAKED: Going Naked explores the journey, pilgrimage, and the transformational process of life’s difficulties through the literal and metaphoric exploration of a pilgrim’s journey. This is done through personal anecdotes and an exploration of what pilgrimage means at each stage of the journey. Each chapter offers guided practices and rituals as suggestions of how to move through different aspects of life’s transitions and find our own inner transformation.
The author offers her own experiences — both as a pilgrim on the Camino De Santiago over the course of one week and in reflecting on poignant moments in her own life story— as examples of guideposts and landmarks on the pilgrim’s path of life. She integrates her expertise as a therapist, understanding the path from an emotional and psychological dimension, as well as her work as a spiritual and contemplative practice teacher, exploring the spiritual lineage of traveling and transformation, to bring together a deeper understanding of the journeys we take, the pain we feel, and the ways we move through our own (as Joseph Campbell describes it) “hero’s journey” of life.
Going Naked explores how we move through our pain, find healing from that which breaks us open, and how the breaking open is an emotional, spiritual, and psychological gateway to something new being created inside us — mind, body and spirit.
Ultimately, it is about stripping away all that does not serve us, layer by layer, forcing us to go naked into the truth of ourselves, seek out our own authenticity in the hardest places, and come out of our suffering more whole and, in some ways, reborn.
